42 - Characterization of stainless steel produced by Binder Jetting and qualification process for applications in Oil & Gas industries

Abstract

Oil & Gas industries are looking to transit into a digital world where they will avoid overuses of materials and send the products just when and where they are needed. By doing so, they will be able to cut CO2 emissions at multiple levels and save time and money. Metal Additive Manufacturing (AM) techniques are low-energy and low-waste processes that can play a key role in this economy and industrial model. Among those techniques, Binder Jetting (BJ) is increasing its maturity to respond to the need of mass customization at low cost per part. In the context of a regulated industry such as Oil & Gas, the availability of qualified 3D printing processes is crucial especially for critical applications. Aidro, an early adopter of BJ technology, has recently obtained the Additive Manufacturing Manufacturer Certificate according to DNV-ST-B203, a standard specifically issued for AM in Oil & Gas field. In this framework, specimens of different dimensions have been manufactured and tested, confirming the positive outcome of 3D printed materials, the details of which will be presented in the paper.
