Carmen Cepeda-Jimenez

Dr. Carmen Cepeda-Jiménez is Tenured Scientist at the National Center for Metallurgical Research (CENIM, CSIC) in Madrid since August 2020. Dr. Cepeda-Jiménez completed an MSc in Chemistry at the University of Alicante (Spain) in 1997. In 2001 she got a PhD degree in Chemistry from the same university. Part of her doctoral research was carried out at the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, University of Surrey (UK). In 2002, Dr. Cepeda-Jiménez joined to the CELME company (Alicante, Spain) as head of the R+D+I department. In 2005 she joined to CENIM, where she worked on the processing and physical metallurgy of high-strength aluminium alloys for light transportation. In 2013 she joined to IMDEA Materials Institute (Madrid) as senior research associate, participating in different research lines. Her main research interests are focus on the relationship between processing-microstructure and mechanical properties of advanced metallic materials. Her more recent contributions to material science are based on the study of deformation mechanisms of magnesium alloys under different testing conditions. She has also gained experience in enhancing data acquisition quality through image analysis techniques (slip trace analysis, digital image correlation-DIC). In the last years, Dr. Cepeda-Jiménez is interested in the design of new metallic alloys for additive manufacturing (Laser Powder Bed Fusion-LPBF), participating as IP in two research projects (ALFORAMA, Cleansky 2, Horizon 2020 and RAPIDAL, PID2020-118626RB-I00). Dr. Cepeda has published 77 papers in peer-reviewed international journals, including Nature N&V, Acta Materialia, Scripta Materialia, MSEA, Composite Science and Technology, Additive Manufacturing etc. She holds an h index of 30 (Scopus) and has given 60 talks in international (15 invited) and national conferences. She has participated in 21 research projects (6 as PI) funded by the Spanish National Programs, the European Commission and by industries, like ENUSA (Spain), ALEASTUR (Spain), Grundfos (Denmark) and EPMA (Switzerland).
