Christian Leinenbach
Head Advanced Processing & MAM

Christian Leinenbach

Dr. Leinenbach studied Materials Science and Engineering at the Universities of Saarbrück-en/Germany and Luleå/Sweden (MSc in 2000). He obtained his PhD from the University of Kaisers-lautern/Germany in 2004. He has been working at Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materi-als Science and Technology since 2005, currently in the position as the Head of the Advanced Pro-cessing and Additive Manufacturing of Metals Group in Dubendorf and Thun, Switzerland. In addi-tion, he is Maître d'Enseignement et de Recherche (MER) at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), where he is giving courses on advanced metallurgy and advanced metals pro-cessing. Dr. Leinenbach’s R&D work is focusing on the simulation-assisted development/optimization and microstructure design of structural alloys and metal-matrix composites with a focus on beam-based additive manufacturing and joining applications. Besides, he is interested in the characteri-zation of the influence of advanced processing technologies on the microstructure and properties of complex structural metallic materials.
