79 Towards process robustness in Metal Binder Jetting (MBJ): understanding powder properties influence on printing step

Cetim has worked for many years on MBJ process with purpose to leverage processs maturity and facilitate process adoption up to industrial manufacturing. MBJ has a great potential to manufacture complex but costeffective components, assuming consistency of dimensional and material properties. Current state of art on MBJ proves that there are limitations to process robustness. MBJ is a multistep process and inherently a lot of parameters will influence the final result. In this study CETIM joins to CEA Liten to investigate how the powders properties impacts the printing step. Many industrial stainless steel powders (316L, 17-4PH) and binder systems were considered and experimentally characterized to drive understanding, and most likely to lead to recommendation towards robustness.
