Biography
Materials Engineer working with integrity of materials and assessment of material suppliers and service suppliers in DNV since 2012. Stian has been involved with verification services, approval of service suppliers, failure investigations, quality assessment on large offshore development projects, as well as smaller projects for the onshore industry sectors. Stian has managed Joint Industry projects for standardization on welding and additive manufacturing in the energy and maritime sector and been responsible for development and maintenance of DNVs standards and recommended practices related to these topics, such as DNV-RP-B204, DNV-ST-B203, RP-B205.

106 Advancing Additive Manufacturing: DNV’s Updated Standards for Qualification and Digital Supply Chains
Additive Manufacturing (AM) transforms the way industries design, produce, and maintain critical components. To ensure safety, reliability, and trust in AM technologies, DNV is continuously improving DNV’s industry-leading standard for qualification of AM processes and parts, DNV-ST-B203. This standard, developed through the Joint Industry project ProGRAM JIP, provides a structured approach for verifying material properties, process consistency, and part performance, enabling stakeholders to adopt AM with confidence.
Complementing this, DNV introduces DNV-RP-B205, a recommended practice for digital inventories and on-demand manufacturing. This guidance supports organizations in leveraging distributed production networks to reduce lead times, optimize supply chains, and improve sustainability. Together, these frameworks enable a robust pathway for integrating AM and digital manufacturing strategies into critical operations, ensuring compliance, quality, and resilience in an increasingly digitalized world.
