36 DED Laser Wire deposition real-time monitoring and control
This work presents a closed-loop regulation system for Wire-Laser Additive Manufacturing (DED-LW) developed within the COSMOS-A project (RAPID AIDDGA). The system ensures real-time control of the melting pool and clad height using two critical parameters: laser power and travel speed. Instead of relying on fixed laser power, the approach maintains a constant melt pool temperature. Simultaneously, the nozzle-to-part distance is monitored via image processing from a welding camera, enabling dynamic adjustment of travel speed. This dual regulation strategy significantly reduces thermal accumulation and geometric defects, improving part quality and process reliability. The system has enabled uninterrupted fabrication of titanium alloy (TA6V) parts over 60 cm in height, demonstrating enhanced process stability and metallurgical integrity.
