Biography
I trained as an engineer at the Ecole Nationale d’ Ingénieur de Saint Etienne (ENISE), specializing in manufacturing processes. I have nearly 10 years’ experience as technical engineer at the CETIM technical center for mechanical industries, where I developed a technology transfer activity for machining technologies, non-conventional machining such as precision electrochemical machining and surface finishing solutions. In 2021, I create the company POLITECHNO, specialized in surface finishing for high value activities, such as luxury, medical and aeronautics, where the aim is to offer to manufacturers a global support in the choice and parameters of finishing technologies, from the technical feasibility and specifications steps, up to the industrialization phases, monitoring of production and industrial supplies. In addition to this activity within my company POLITECHNO, I am also an editorial advisor for LES TECHNIQUES DE L’INGENIEUR. In charge of the « abrasion and physico-chemical processes » section, with the aim of structuring a complete documentary base by integrating different authors and technical and scientific articles

84 Surface finishing methods and technologies adapted for micro and precise components made by 3D printing technologies
Surface finishing technologies have a strategic role in the industrial development of additive manufacturing technologies. Indeed, surface finishing can significantly improve the performance of components produced by 3D processes, in terms of corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance, assembly precision, component cleanliness, reduced friction coefficient, improved load-bearing capacity, etc. ….
Nevertheless, the choice of technologies, the various parameters and finishing ranges is highly complex, and it is essential to have a precise understanding of the role and positioning of existing finishing technologies in order to implement technologies, and ranges that are adapted to the technical, the economic and the industrial criteria of each specific applications.
The aim of this presentation is to provide an overview of existing finishing solutions at different stages of industrial maturity, new technologies and developments, as well as specific recommendations for applications involving the additive manufacturing of high technical components.
To achieve this, the presentation will be divided into three main sections:
First: Overview and classification of surface finishing technologies
Second: Focus on relevant technological innovations, from ultrasonic shot-peening technologies, high energy mass finishing methods and plasma electropolishing.
Third: Presentation of industrial case studies, from different sector such as medical devices, aeronautics components and luxury brands, with a specific focus on micro components and high value parts which needs high precision. On this third section, we will speak about polishing operation of LMM, Binder jetting and micro SLM components with a focus of surface finishing technologies and polishing steps with different technologies in order to ensure as much a possible to achieve a functional surface with low roughness without damaged the dimension and the precision of the parts.
