Lucas Kautzmann

Biography

Lucas Kautzmann is an applications engineer at Fives AddUp with a strong technical foundation and extensive experience in additive manufacturing. Holding a dual engineering degree from Arts et Métiers and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), he began his career designing next‑generation 5‑axis machining centers at Huron Graffenstaden before joining BeAM as product lead for the Modulo 400 DED machine. Following BeAM’s integration into AddUp in late 2020, he supported LPBF industrialization projects for aeronautical components and then relocated to Aachen to develop AddUp’s tooling activity from Germany. Lucas has since returned to France, where he now plays a strategic role supporting the commercial team through high‑value technical expertise: conducting in‑depth application analyses, defining manufacturing strategies, and guiding customers toward optimal industrial solutions in metal additive manufacturing.

55 Qualification in Metal Additive Manufacturing: Key Factors and AddUp’s Technological Contributions

The qualification of components produced via metal additive manufacturing (AM) constitutes a critical prerequisite for the broader industrial adoption of this technology.
This presentation examines the determinant factors underpinning a rigorous and reliable qualification framework, including the control and optimization of process parameters, implementation of robust quality assurance protocols, traceability throughout the production cycle, production repeatability, and adherence to established industrial standards and certification pathways.
The presentation will further explore how AddUp’s advanced technical solutions – encompassing proprietary software environments, in-situ monitoring capabilities, and structured support methodologies – collectively contribute to securing and accelerating qualification processes. Particular emphasis will be placed on the integration of these tools within industrial workflows to enhance process reliability and reduce qualification timelines.

A case study conducted in collaboration with an industrial partner will illustrate the practical application of these solutions, tracing the full qualification journey from the definition of functional and regulatory requirements to the final validation of manufactured components.
