Louise Le Barbenchon
Biography
Louise Le Barbenchon is a French researcher at the CNRS, specializing in the mechanics of architectured materials. She is currently a research scientist at the Institute of Mechanics and Engineering (I2M) in Talence, where she investigates the mechanical behavior of cellular materials, focusing on their response to dynamic loading and energy absorption capabilities. She earned her degree in materials engineering and completed her PhD in 2020 at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Métiers (ENSAM), where her research centered on cork-based composites for aerospace applications. Her doctoral work examined the dynamic fracture and impact resistance of these innovative materials. Following her PhD, she pursued postdoctoral research at I2M before joining the institute as a research scientist in November 2021. Le Barbenchon’s current research is organized around three primary axes: bio-inspiration, mechanical property characterization, and the design of architectured structures. She draws inspiration from natural systems, such as the peel of the Chinese grapefruit, to develop materials and structures with enhanced impact resistance and mechanical performance. Her work combines experimental investigations with modeling to understand and optimize the behavior of complex materials under various loading conditions.
