Juho Raukola (AM Innovation manager), WHAM – Wärtsilä Hub for Additive manufacturing team lead & former head of Operational Board in FAME (AM ecosystem of Finland)
Master’s thesis for Wärtsilä Vaasa factory on the potential of 3D printing in 2017, and hired as the first full-time AM person in the company in 2018. Leads the technology development for Additive manufacturing in Wärtsilä.

How do you grow a start-up team inside a large corporation with shoestring budget but a big vision for the future? In WHAM – Wärtsilä Hub for Additive manufacturing we found the answer through a mix of developing tons of 3D printed short-term solution while cooking the long-term strategic bets, constant experimentation, and engaging in extremely open co-creation.
In this talk, we will tell about our journey in Wärtsilä through tangible use cases, qualification of critical metal applications, and how have we built our deep know-how in AM by challenging the technology together with our partners.
Wärtsilä works towards 100% renewable energy future in Marine and Energy production with large 4-stroke engines as their core product.
