71 Fatigue resistance of 316L stainless steel cylindrical structures repaired using Cold Spray technology

Fatigue resistance of 316L stainless steel specimens repaired using the Cold Spray process was determined using a staircase procedure. Low-porosity reparations were achieved with a hardness of around 400 HV0.5. The estimated fatigue limit at 2,000,000 cycles was similar to that of wrought 316L steel, around 260 MPa. Heat treatments were also conducted, but significantly reduced the fatigue limit to around 160 MPa due to microstructural evolution of the substrate. Furthermore, this study compared the fatigue limits determined using the staircase procedure with those estimated using self-heating, highlighting comparable estimations.
